He won the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Prize from Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and a faculty-in-residence grant from the Loeb Classical Library at Harvard. He also delivered the Rackham Centennial Lecture at the University of Michigan.
